Memories of My Work With My Work With
Evangelist Arthur Blessitt
A Two-Part Audio Book by Eddie Smith

Introduction:

In 1965, after being honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy, I took a job at an employment agency in downtown San Diego, California, while also serving as the minister of music at Highland Avenue Baptist Church in National City, California.

The next year, our church held its annual weeklong revival, and our pastor invited Baptist evangelist Arthur Blessitt from Redlands, California, to be our guest speaker. As a member of the church staff, I led the revival music.

Arthur was twenty-seven, and I was twenty-five. His simple preaching style and unwavering focus on Jesus and the gospel made a lasting impression on me.

We soon realized we had a lot in common. He was two years older than me, born in 1940 in Louisiana, while I was born in 1942 in Birmingham. My father was a Baptist preacher, and I was born again at five and a half years old. Arthur came to Christ that same year at the age of seven. We were both passionate about evangelism and had led many people to Christ before we ever met.

Following that revival, Arthur and I moved to Hollywood’s famed Sunset Strip, launching a street evangelism ministry. We shared Christ with hippies, motorcycle gang members, Hollywood stars, and anyone willing to listen.

It’s my joy to share these two one-hour audio recordings of my memories from those next two incredible years.

Two years after I left working with Arthur, he told me God had called him to carry a 12-foot cross from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. But the Father had even greater plans.

Arthur eventually carried that cross through every sovereign nation, major island group, and territory on earth—walking a total of 43,340 miles before the Lord called him home at the age of 84 on January 14, 2025.

He is recognized in the Guinness Book of World Records—and more importantly, in heaven!
